Dennis J. Gemmell, Ph.D.
Since 1999 Princeton Ecology Education Services has designed science education, ecology education,
environmental education and environmental science curricula and conducted teacher professional development workshops for K
- 12 schools, as well as universities such as Rider and Princeton. Dennis J. Gemmell is the founder and president.
He received his B.S. from Villanova University, M.S. from the University of North Dakota and Ph.D. in ecology from Rutgers
University. For his doctoral research he spent 5 years studying the natural history and ecology of the bog turtle, an endangered
species in Pennsylvania and New Jersey.
Over a span of 30 years, he has held numerous college professorships teaching courses in ecology, environmental science and
biology. He has designed Environmental Education programs, supervised proactive environmental clubs, directed a raptor rehabilitation
program, and served on a variety of environmental committees and commissions. In addition, he has been chairman of a high
school science department where he infused environmental education into the biology curriculum and implemented five-month
long science research studies for all students in the academic program at the school. He personally supervised 125 science
fair projects yearly. As director of an environmental conservation program for high school students with the U.S. Department
of Interior, he conducted environmental learning training programs nation-wide. At the central Pennsylvania site for this
program, he supervised nature trail construction, development of an authentic Shenks Ferry Indian village, forestry management,
wildlife investigations, erosion control and historic building preservation. He has worked at a variety of environmental
learning centers (Philadelphia Academy of Natural Science, Philadelphia Zoo, Schuylkill Valley Center for Environmental Education
and Nature Center of Charlestown) designing and implementing environmental education programs and curricula.
