The main goal of every K - 12 Teacher Professional Development workshop is to present a dynamic, enjoyable and substantive experience so each teacher gains the motivation and ability to go back to the classroom and immediately begin implementing the content knowledge and skills learned during the workshop. Workshop themes include topics in scientific inquiry, ecology education, environmental science and environmental education. In addition to the 7 workshops described on this web site, we can also prepare workshops customized to your specifications.

Science education research on the beach
1. Scientific Inquiry - How to Teach Good Science Research Skills

This workshop is designed to improve science teaching by liberating teachers from a dependency on content-laden, textbook-based instruction. Teachers learn how to effectively engage their students in GOOD scientific research and discovery.

By learning ecology, we learn how nature works. The major goal of this workshop is to give K-12 teachers a solid foundation in basic ecological concepts and research skills in order to effectively teach ecology.

This workshop focuses on educating teachers on how to become familiar and comfortable with utilizing aquatic ecosystems for ecological and environmental learning. The knowledge and skills learned can be effectively applied to any local stream, river, pond, lake, marsh or swamp.

4. Biodiversity Education - Enhancing Your Life Science Curriculum

This workshop helps teachers to understand how they can implement an effective unit of study on nature's diversity of life so students can appreciate and understand major identification characteristics, survival needs and adaptations.

Environmental health is concerned with the effects of environmental exposure on children and adult human health. This workshop will assist teachers in learning both the content knowledge and research skills needed to effectively integrate environmental health studies into the curriculum.

Natural resources sustain all living things and include energy, minerals, air, water, soil, wildlife and ecological processes. This workshop will assist teachers in learning major natural resource concepts, as well as research study techniques to help students conserve and protect Earth's limited resources.

7. How to Teach Environmental Education

This workshop will instruct teachers how they can implement environmental education into their curriculum, either as a separate unit or infused into their existing instruction. Teachers will learn how they can build in their students an awareness and appreciation of the wonders of the living world and an understanding of how nature works so that they can improve their quality of life and that of those around them.
